Ludlow Sausage
The Ludlow Food Centre’s homemade Cumberland sausages have been voted the tastiest breakfast sausage in Shropshire, in a regional competition run by HEART of ENGLAND fine foods. Prepared to a secret recipe by Head Butcher John Brereton, the sausages are made our butchery every day using pedigree Gloucester Old Spot pork from the Estates own Felton Farm, located just half a mile away.
A panel of sausage lovers, including local chefs and industry experts, tasted entries from producers and butchers shops all across the county before unanimously selecting the Food Centre’s bangers as their top favourite. John’s Pork & Perry Pear Pickle sausage was also named runner up in the hotly contested Speciality category.
John, whose Pork and Perry Pear Pickle sausage actually won Best Sausage in the 2007 Ludlow Food Festival, says, ‘We produce all our sausages using local ingredients wherever possible, we produce a wide range of sausages including: Whole Pork, Pork, parsley & onion (formerley known as our one mile sausage because all the ingredients came from within one mile of the Food Centre), Black Pudding Sausage, Leek Cheese & apple juice, our meaty Toulouse style sausage, Spicy Beef, Venison Port & Redcurrant, Pork & Tomato and Pork Chilli & Red Pepper. All the sausages used to be available through the Ludlow Sausage Company but it is now far easier for us to send them to you straight from the Food Centre.
